Submit your manuscript

The Philippine Journal of Linguistics (PJL) welcomes original scholarly work in theoretical and applied linguistics, with particular interest in research relating to the Philippines and Philippine languages.

PJL publishes one volume annually. Manuscripts intended for consideration for the volume scheduled for publication in the current calendar year should be submitted no later than the end of July. Manuscripts received after this period will normally be considered for the following year’s volume. Please note that submission by the deadline does not guarantee publication in a particular volume; publication scheduling remains subject to the completion of the editorial and peer-review process.

All manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the PJL online submission form and uploaded in Microsoft Word (.docx) format.

STEP 1: Prepare your manuscript

Before submitting, carefully read the PJL Author Guidelines and ensure that your manuscript complies with the journal’s requirements for scope, length, formatting, referencing, anonymization, research ethics, and other applicable policies.

Please use the required PJL manuscript template where applicable.

Read the Author Guidelines: https://www.pjl-phil.com/author-guidelines

Manuscripts that do not comply with the journal’s submission requirements may be returned to the authors or declined at the initial editorial screening stage.

STEP 2: Submit your manuscript

Complete the PJL online submission form and upload your manuscript.

Submit your manuscript here via this link.

You will be asked to provide the manuscript title, abstract, word count, author names and affiliations, corresponding-author information, manuscript type, and other submission details.

Please enter all information carefully. In particular, ensure that the corresponding author’s email address is active and regularly monitored, as this address will be used by the PJL Editorial Team for correspondence concerning the submission, review, revision, and publication process.

STEP 3: Receive your submission acknowledgement

After successfully submitting the form, you should receive an automated acknowledgement email from PJL within 24 hours.

The acknowledgement will contain your PJL manuscript ID (e.g., PJL-185). Please retain this number and include it in all future correspondence with the journal concerning your manuscript.

If you do not receive the acknowledgement within 24 hours, please check your spam or junk folder. If it is still unavailable, contact the Editorial Office at journal.lingph@gmail.com.

STEP 4: Track your manuscript

Once you have received your manuscript ID, you may check the current editorial status of your submission through the PJL Manuscript Tracker:

https://www.pjl-phil.com/track

To access your manuscript record, enter:

  1. Corresponding author’s last name: Enter the very last word of the corresponding author’s name exactly as provided in the submission. Capitalization and accents do not matter.

  2. Manuscript number: Enter only the final three digits of your PJL manuscript ID. For example, if your manuscript ID is PJL-185, enter 185.

The tracker is provided for convenient status checking. Formal editorial decisions, revision requests, and other communications requiring action from authors will continue to be sent by email.

If you are unable to locate your manuscript through the tracker, please contact journal.lingph@gmail.com.

STEP 5: Initial editorial screening / desk review

Following submission, your manuscript will undergo an initial editorial screening (desk review) to determine whether it complies with the journal’s submission requirements, falls within the scope of PJL, and is suitable to proceed to external peer review.

Authors should normally expect to receive the result of this initial assessment from the PJL Editorial Team within 7–21 working days of submission.

A manuscript that passes the desk-review stage will proceed to the journal’s blind and independent peer-review process. Manuscripts that do not proceed to external review will be accompanied by an editorial decision communicated to the corresponding author.
